So you have a retail shop or are thinking of starting your own retail business. The most important part of your shop is how you display your stock.

You can hire in a company that will take care of your shop fitting and design, but a more cost effective solution is to take care of it yourself.

A good starting place is visit shops that sell similar items to you, this will give you a good overview of a good way to do it. But you don't just want to be as good as them, you want to be better....aim high!

My most popular product by far is Slatwall Panels. These are just wooden panels with slots cut into them, these slots work with special Slatwall Accessories and is easily the most versatile way for you to create a shop display. So many different types of shop use Slatwall for their displays, from clothing to mobile phone shops, its just that versatile. And for this reason its where you should start when planning your shop fitting

Once you have sorted out what you are going to do with the walls, you need to start thinking about the floor space. You can get metal clothing hangers, gondolas, slatwall gondolas, counters - basically anything you want. Just use your imagination and create the best shop display you can.

Just remember that symmetry is important, and is more pleasing to the eyes of your customers. Other than that just keep it fun and simple.

The best thing about using Slatwall Panels . is that you can so easily change your displays and move things around. So much or merchandising for the amateur is trial and error, you need to see what will work best for you and your shop. So keep trying different things.

Merchandising your clothes shop can be a tricky business to get right if you have little experience in this area.

When planning your shop fitting or shop display the main thing is to have to right tools for the job.

The number one product used in shop fitting is Slatwall Panels.

These panels can come in many sizes, but essentially are wooden panels with many grooves routed into the them, allowing you use slatwall accessories in these grooves to create your shop display.

Once you have the panels up on your wall you now have many choices of accessories you can use, which ones you use are mainly down to personal taste. The main rules when creating your shop display are: keep it attractive, keep it simple and link items.

Display your most popular products at the front of your shop, this will draw customers in, always display at least 2 sizes for each item and keep replenishing stock during the day. If a customer cant see the size they want, not many will ask an assistant, so make sure you keep on top of that.

So we now have your most popular items at the front of your store, but where do you place the cash desk?. Many shops have these by the front door, but if you do that with your most popular items at the front, people will see those pay and leave. If you place the till point in the middle of your shop or towards the rear, then you are forcing customers to walk through your shop, they will be looking at your items while they do!

Following simple rules and using great products like Slatwall Panels . will help you to create a great merchandising display for your shop.

How to display merchandise in your retail clothing shop.

Merchandising is never easy at the best of times, but when you have a your own clothing shop it can be a minefield.
A poorly merchandised shop can cost you money, lots of it. Getting it right is everything. To get it right you need to know what your most popular stock lines are, what is not selling, what the most popular sizes are and your most popular accessories.

Once you have all that information you can get to work. One main thing to remember is to use quality display equipment, using cheap and non-matching equipment will make your display look cheap and amature.

Try to get display equipment that matches, this does not need to cost you a fortune, but don’t be scared to spend you money. If you get your displays right then you will see a return on your investment.
Use the internet. There are many websites where you can buy you equipment from, even auction websites are good.

Think about wallspace, how are you going to display stock on your walls?, Slatwall is a great way. Wooden panels with slots cut into them where you place accessories that let you display stock in anyway you like.

Next you need to plan floor space, display rails and gondolas are what you want here.
Go with chrome, shiny = attractive when it comes to clothing displays.
Remember to place your most popular lines at the front of your shop, also place matching accessories near the main stock. If you have a range of jeans, place belts near them, suits should be near shirts and ties etc. seems like common sense but you would be surprised at how many people forget this simple rule.

Just remember, if you want a quality display, use quality equipment. Changing from cheap nasty hangers to classy wooden ones is the first thing you should do and will transform your displays instantly.

So when planning your displays, think; Slatwall, Gondolas, Display Rails and Hangers.
